Need Help...

We have started seeing an uptick in things missing around Live Oak. For those living around the course keep an eye out for kids wondering around the course in the evenings. It has been especially bad on the back 9 at Live Oak--tee rocks missing, trash cans missing or thrown around, utility box covers missing, and our Irrigation box covers taken. It is happening pretty regular now and started  last weekend. So more eyes on the situation will help and police patrolling the streets around Live Oak will help.

Driving Range Info

Here is a nice photo from the USGA on how to hit balls on the range. Using this method will help our range coverage throughout the year.

Today 1/25/19 Live Oak

Today Live Oak #3 will be closed for play. This is our last day with the tree company and we are going to work on #3 (mainly clearing some in the canyon for white/red tee players). With the company cut and trimming trees we need to close the hole for safety and to let the crew work freely. Thanks for everyone’s cooperation and feel good about Taking a free Par on #3.

Thanks again,
The GCM Team

Hazard stakes

Working on reconditioning the red hazard stakes at both courses. Special thanks to Chris Wardlaw for the use of his wood Jointer.  This will be a ongoing process as we pull some in and then replace them after we clean them up. Here is a before and after look at a stake:

Yaupon trimmings

Here is a sampling of the trimming being done at Yaupon. We have loaded 7-- 40 yd dumpsters so far with at least 3 more to be loaded with limbs piling up at the shop. Special thanks to Matt Linscott and the crew over at Yaupon-- Lots of canopy raising for mowers and golf cart traffic.

Tree Trimming

Today worked on #16 at Yaupon. Got a damaged cedar elm cut down by the greens and the cart path. This large tree had a major crack going up the side and had started to rot at the base. We also cut a big limb out of the tree in the fairway to try and open up the area on the left side. Here are the before and after pics:

Today's Live Oak Course Rule.

Today Saturday (1/19/19) please play #11 at the tee markers. We moved the tee markers up on #11 to play as a par 3. The tree company is coming out to remove a oak wilt tree and also limb up some of the other trees in the area.
During the next week or so there will be some altered holes as we try to finish tree trimming before the end of this months deadline.
We appreciate everyone's cooperation as we try to finish up the trimming for the year

Sprayer

Today we worked on cleaning the tank of the spray rig. As time goes on the dye/pigment stains the outside of the tank. So with some degreaser and magic erasers we went to scrubbing it off. It's not perfect but clearly better than before.

Fountain 18 Live Oak

We recently were able to get the fountain on #18 Live Oak running. I know a lot of you had questions about it not running but we think the repairs should last.

Rain Shelter

This week we were able to straighten the rain shelter on 6 at Live Oak. We crossed cables on both sides to stabilize the cover. We did lower the 2x4 to waist height mainly to block off the area the wires are located.  This was more of a safety issue than a structural fix. I think it turned out great and the structure is not leaning anymore. Here is a picture of the finished project....

Final Poa App.

Today we made our final Poa Anna application on the greens and collars at Live Oak. As many of you remember we had a bad Poa outbreak last year on some of the greens. This year we are aggressively trying to combat this from happening again. So far the greens are relatively clean and the Poa has started yellowing out in the collars. The rest of the course is more difficult to control due to the fact that these products move easily in the soils and could damage the overseeded areas. As the winter continues we will continue to monitor the course conditions and make adjustments as needed.
Thanks and come on out while the weather is cooperating,
The GCM Staff

Rain

Lots of rain and cold cloudy weather. Both courses will remain Cart Path Only for a few days (possibly through the weekend). With all the rains we have had it does not take much for us to be very wet. I know there are days the fairways are fairly dry but the non overseeded rough stays wet a lot longer.  We ask that when it is Cart Path Only please stay on the path. We have been seeing a lot of ruts and tire marks after days that were Path Only. These areas will not heal over the winter due to the grass being dormant. Thanks for everyones cooperation with this and look forward to a good weather weekend.
