First Mowings
Working on getting the first mowing completed on the overseeded areas at Yaupon before the rains tomorrow(Thursday). Fairways and par 3 tees mowing out well - as we are trying to avoid mowing any area that remains saturated. The greens are still germinating but trying to get mowed one time before the seed starts to pop. All the mowing is done in the afternoon(dry) so we will not track any seed out of the desired areas. We appreciate staying on the Cart Path as we work on getting the seed up.
Thanks,

Overseed
This past week we were able to get out the seed at Yaupon. Fairways, par 3 tees , collars, approaches, and greens all seeded. Last night's big rains(@2") was Not good timing- with the greens seed only down since Tuesday we did experience some washing. On Monday, we are going to apply some more seed to the greens especially the ones that appeared to have washed the most. We are still playing on opening Friday 11/1 to cart path only. We will remain Cart Path Only until the seed gets established. As for Live Oak the new fairways are Not being overseeded. The only seeding over at Live Oak will be the DR tee, Par 3 tees, 14 blue tee, and 14 approach. The crew is also going to freshing up the fescue areas we established last year. Here are a few pics of some of the washing at Yaupon:

Around the Course
It has been a busy week in the GCM dept.- the guys got greens at Live Oak topdressed, pre emerge out, 5 pallets of tif tuff sod out, and a final fertilizer application on the fairways. Please avoid the new sod on 6,10,11 fairways (as we will be watering extra in those areas). We also got the DR tee overseeded today as well. ( will be mats only for about a week).
Just a reminder Yaupon will be closed Monday 10/21-10/31 for overseeding. We are doing Par 3 tees, fairways, collars, approaches, and greens.

Topdressing Greens
https://www.usga.org/course-care/regional-updates/southeast-region/the-benefits-of-sand-topdressing.html
Above is a USGA article about the benefits of top dressing greens. I have had some questions about why we top dress greens on our closed maintenance days. I decided to post a link to an article from the USGA explaining why this is a good thing. This has been and will be a continuous practice during the growing season.
Thank you and hope everyone comes out to enjoy the Warm weather.

Opening Day
We have come a long way in the last few months. Tomorrow Friday the 13th we will be open for morning tee times followed by our first Round of the Lakeway Cup. In the morning players will need to get a pinsheet as we will have out our white tournament flags all day. Good luck to Guys playing in the Cup and May the best course win. A reminder from the email sent out-we will be Cart Path Only on holes #11 and #16. We are also going to play winter rules as we open back up for play. As for carts we will be mostly 90 degrees- I ask that if you see a thin area or worn area please take a different route back to the cart path.(This is always good practice at any course to not beat down one area)
Thanks and have fun. The guys worked extremely hard this summer so my hat is off to the crew

Update.
Monday and Tuesday Yaupon will be closed for aerification and vertical mowing. The course is holding up well with the heat and lack of rainfall this summer. This will be the third and fourth closed day of the summer. I would like to thank the GCM staff for all the hard work through the summer so far. Live Oak fairways are coming... still fertilizing weekly along with mowing. We have laid a couple of trucks of sod with one more load scheduled for Tuesday. I began rolling the fairways this week in hopes to smooth them out as much as possible. Looking forward to opening Live Oak in September to Cart Path Only.

Course update.
This week we sodded a few areas at Live Oak. It was mainly some approaches that were a little thin. Yaupon collars are finally starting to transition from the winter ryegrass-leaving some thin areas on the collars. We are closed 8/12-8/13 for aerification at Yaupon and we will make sure to aerify those collars. Her are a few pictures from athe sod work at Live Oak...

Wet Conditions
Live Oak fairways are wet. Some wetter than others but after the rains of almost 1” this weekend along with the new sprig watering we have to stay off of them.
We had another evening ride into 11 fairway. It was after the 5:00 hour. So please if you are out around the course or live on the course please stay on the cart path.
Thanks,
The GCM Staff

Please Stay off
Please stay off the fairways at Live Oak. Once the sprigs go down we water extensively causing saturated soils. This is what happens when you drive out into a fairway with a cart......

Yaupon Railing
We were able to finish the new railing at #13 Red tees at Yaupon. Think it came out great with a nice wood stain to help protect it.
