Yaupon venting

Yaupon was able to get a venting on the greens today. It was the same process we did at Live Oak a few weeks ago. This is a great practice coming out of the cold weather to get the air exchange started for the plant. The process after rolling is very minimal disruption to the surface.

Maintenance Monday

Finally some good weather to get some maintenance done to the greens and fairways. At Live Oak we sprayed Iron and pigment on the fairways. This should help with definition between fairways and roughs.  On the greens we ran the viper tines with the aerifiers.  This will help get some well needed oxygen in the soils.  We will finish with the venting of greens tomorrow in front of play —followed with a speed roller to smooth the surface.  Here are a few pics from today’s work…..

Jaws

We were able to get some work done on Jaws this week. Think it should be a big difference for the up tee players.

PreEmerge Yaupon

This week we were able to get out the first pre emerge application. This application is to help prevent weeds this coming season.  Derick Hashimoto, the new superintendent at Yaupon, has hit the ground running- so when you see him around the course say Hello.

Upcoming Cold

With the upcoming freezing weather we are running extra water on the greens at both courses.  During extreme cold you want adequate moisture in the soil to help insult the plants. Once this weather passes we will work on drying the greens complexes out again. Thanks and stay warm this weekend.

Happy New Year,

The GCM Staff

Pigment.

In preparation for the colder temperatures coming this winter we have applied our second application of pigment to the Live Oak fairways.  This colorant and iron helps keep the plant darker green going into the dormant season. We will make applications monthly probably through February to help with fairway definition. Here are a couple of pictures from the application….

GCM News

It has been a busy week before Thanksgiving.  The crew was able to fertilize all the overseed at Yaupon and get the second fall preemerge application out at Live Oak. Both courses might be a little damp because both of these scheduled applications need to be watered in good. The GCM crew wants to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and we look forward to seeing out at the courses.
