Got around 9 green, spot on 10 fwy, the dip going to 12 blue tee, some around 12 green, and 13 tee area.  They will still get the spot going up to 2 green where the tree fell over in the coming days.  Here are a couple of pictures.

Second Announcement….

Today we installed cup liners for the cups. This is a winter practice to help the cup edges from getting torn up.  The liners should protect the cup lips so that we are able to limit moving the hole locations. This will help us from having so many old plugs on the surface as the turf is not growing. The benefits should make putting surfaces better during the winter months. We ask you to leave the liners installed as this is to Benefit all golfers.

Thank you GCM Staff

Sunny Day Maintenance

Yaupon Overseed update.

We appreciate everyone staying on the Cart Path as we work on getting the overseed grown in. This will probably be a couple more weeks as water supply is still a challenge. This afternoon we were able to get the greens mowed for the first time since seeding. We will do a couple more afternoon mows before we get back on a regular mowing schedule. The recent rains have help but we still need a lot more as the drought continues. Here is a couple of pictures from this afternoon mowing. Also getting some tree work done around Yaupon- started around the clubhouse and today worked on 12 going across Tahoe creek from the gold tees

Monday at Live Oak

Today was a busy day on the course. Finished the cart path repair on #2- did the section at the tee to the road.  We topdressed greens and brushed in the sand - also made the first application of pigment/ iron to the fairways. This will happen every 3 weeks throughout the winter to help retain some color on the fairways.  Here are few pics from the application.

Yaupon overseed Update.

Yaupon is busy getting the winter overseed out on the Fairways, Greens, and Tees.  All the seed should be on the ground by tomorrow afternoon. The next step is to water and hope for some light steady rain showers and wait for germination. As a reminder once we open back up on Friday 10/28 we will be Cart Path Only for a couple more weeks. Hope everyone is enjoying the cooler mornings but all the courses need more rain.

Overseed Season

We started Overseeding Live Oak tees yesterday. We are Overseeding all the tees this year as compared to only Par 3 tees last year.  This will provide a green teeing area through out the winter.

Yaupon will start there Overseeding process on Monday 10/17 and will be closed until Friday 10/28.  Yaupon will remain Cart Path Only after the 28th until seed is fully germinated(probably a couple of weeks).

Thank you for everyone who participated in this past weekend’s Member/Member. It was a Big success

Thank you for the support,

GCM Staff

Course and Drought updates

As we continue our battle with high temps and low rainfall we are seeing the turf turning off color and thinning in some areas.  In the past we have talked about the irrigation system is not a replacement for rainfall.  It is used to supplement lack of rain for short periods of time.    I have a few pictures of where the rock saw cut a trench for the irrigation lines and then back filled with soil.  During drought you can definitely see the benefits of the soil replaced lines compared to the rocky soils that are on the golf course.

Here are a couple of examples of this:

We have added wetting agents, hand watering and extra watering to these areas. I was also curious to look at some of the weather data from the course to help with some perspective on the current situation. Last March we got a new weather station that records and keeps daily weather data.  I decided to look into this to compare last May through July to compare it to this year. I looked at daily temperature average ( daily highs and lows averaged together) and rainfall amounts over the 3 months. Here is what the weather station had:
Rainfall….
2021.                          2022
May. 7.1”.                    2.66”
June. 3.89”.                  1.31”
July. 4.2”.                     .26”

Average monthly temperatures
2021.                    2022
May. 72.1.            79.7
June. 80.1.             84.7
July. 80.6.             87.3
The GCM staff continues to work hard though this unprecedented weather time. They also want to thank the members that have continued to encourage them for their work through the heat of the summer.

Closed Monday

The guys were busy today.  We vertical mowed, mowed, and topdressed greens followed by dragging in the sand. We are seeing good benefits from the vertical mowing and multiple topdressings.  The greens will continue to improve as we continue these procedures. We also sprayed our first round of fall pre-emerge today. As many of you guys see we have multiple dry areas- we continue spraying wetting agents and trying to hand water many of these areas. As we all know we need lots of rain and some days under 100 degrees.  Until then we will continue to battle the ongoing drought conditions.  If we can ALL reduce the traffic on some of the driest areas this should help reduce any future problems with the turf.

Here are a few pictures from today’s work:
