Frost Delay education

I get a lot of Frost delay questions this time of year. I was able to find this video from the USGA that helps explain the potential problems with frost.

Hope this helps explain the need for delays

Feeding Yaupon

Today we were able to mow and get some fertilizer out on the fairways.  This will help the overseeding take off and also feed the bermudagrass going into dormancy.  We also fertilized the DR tee today.

This week we are going back to our regular cart path rules - that we have done over the summer months. There are a few wet areas so please keep an eye out and avoid those areas.

Thank you and come out and enjoy this Great weather,

The GCM Staff.

Yaupon REOPENS

Tomorrow (Friday) Yaupon is reopening from our overseeding application.  Today we were able to mow greens, fairways, collars, and approaches. The first few mowings will be done in the afternoons so we can mow when the turf is dry. This helps use from not tracking seed and not needing to blow after mowing. Yaupon will be CART PATH Only for a week or so. We should be back to normal mowing later next week. Here are a few pictures from today’s mowing:

Yaupon Front 9

Last few days we have been dealing with some irrigation hydraulic issues. The result of the issues is that the sprinkler heads come on and/or seep out the top of the heads - This has caused some wet areas especially on 1 and 9 as they are closest  to the pump house. As a reminder overseeding of the Yaupon course will start on Monday 10/19

Overflow drains

We worked on the drainage culverts on 14 pond at Live Oak.  During the heavy rains recently the water under cut the area and caused a sink hole.  Good work bY Alex to repair the hole and wash. Here are a few pictures.

#18 Hydraulic line

Had a few questions about the trench and pipe on 18 Yaupon. We had to run a new line for the hydraulic irrigation due to a leak in the fairway that runs up the middle of the fairway. The leak was not coming to the surface  so we decided to run a new line to fix the problem. We have a little more Trench to connect then we will be laying the pipe in the trench and covering it back up.  With the recent rains it has been too wet to finish the trench but hopefully we can get back over there soon.  I would recommend playing the area as ground under repair.  We were able to weedeat the grass down along the ditch- please remain playing the hole as Cart Path Only because if the pipe gets damaged all the sprinklers heads will try to come on and probably cause The pump station to fault out.

Thank you for your patience as we try to get this back to normal as soon as we can,

The GCM Staff

Yaupon Maintenance Monday

Today was a busy maintenance Monday.  We were able to get 2 leaks fixed, mow 8 holes of rough, mow fairways, topdress greens, brush greens, and spray greens - I would call that a productive day.

Course updates.

Well as they say “When it rains it pours” - From limited rainfall over the past 2 months to 4+ inches over the last week and more predicted for today, tonight, and tomorrow.  The courses will be cart path only for the next few days. As for course conditions, we will be playing catch up for the next few days(probably into next week).  Our plan will be to mow what we can as things dry out but fairways, tees, and especially rough will be thick(long) until we can catch up.  The greens at both courses will continue to be mowed and we plan on topdressing both sets of greens next week.  At Yaupon we are seeing some scalping on the greens - the plan is to topdress and increase growth regulators to help with this issue. Once the rain stops we will check bunkers, push up washes and move sand around to proper depths. The good news is all the ponds on the course that were getting pretty low will fill up.

Thank you and stay dry,

The GCM Staff.

New rough unit.

Took out our new rough mowing unit today — New Kubota tractor with a Toro Groundsmaster 1200 rotary pull behind mower.  Should help us get larger areas mowed faster and better than before. Look forward to learning what all the new unit can do.

Aerification completed

Happy with the results from the Live Oak Aerification this past week.  We did a deep multidirectional vertical mowing that helped push the Aerification holes together.  We mowed today and will roll on Saturday followed by another mowing Sunday morning. Greens heights are up slightly until we work out the first few mowings then we will work the heights back down.  Weather looks good this weekend so come out and get some golf exercise.  Here is a picture from this morning after we mowed greens:

Ant Bait

Finally got a dry forecast so we were able to get out the first round of Ant bait.  Looks like we will be able to do Live Oak on Thursday.  I know this is overdue but the bait needs to stay dry for 24 hours to be most effective.

New Updates

We will be flipping the cups upside down, removing bunker rakes, and removing ball washers.  We are asking to leave the flagsticks in the cups to limit touching of the pole.  We also ask that you smooth the bunkers out after your shot with your foot. Trying to make it as smooth as possible for golfers behind you.

Thanks you,
The GCM Staff

Cart Path at Yaupon

We have fixed the cart path by #4 Tee.  We cut out the cart path that caved in and back filled the sink holes with rock and soil.  We have temporarily put Decomposed Granite down until we see if it is going to sink again.  Once we feel good the problem is solved we will patch it with concrete.  Today we are going to do the same procedure at 13 blue tee (similar issue). Here are a few pictures of #4 cart path...

Live Oak 14 update

We were able to do some clearing of the under growth at #14 blue tees.  This has made more of the fairway visible off  the tee.  Here is a before and after picture...

Foam Protection at restrooms

We added some foam along the low hanging roofs at Live Oak on the bathrooms. Hopefully this will help prevent any head bumping going forward - but please always watch as you enter the restrooms.

Spring PreEmerge

We were able to get all the spring pre-emerge out today.  After some spreader problems last Thursday, today went relatively smooth.  We are going to water Live Oak tonight so the course may have some wet spots tomorrow (please watch out with the carts)

Thanks,
The GCM Staff.
