Rain Break.

After nearly 11" of rain last week -We are trying to get caught up. Lots of grass--fairways, rough being cut. Still have not been able to mow parts of 4 and 6 fairways at Yaupon. Those holes will remain cart path only. We are working on getting the rough mowed-- will take all week.  We are also having to try and blow all the clippings. Today we got fairways mowed and dragged. We also got 6,7,8,9,1, and driving range rough mowed. We are dealing with a major ant problem with all the rain-- today got ant bait out at Yaupon and will do the same at Live Oak on Thursday. The guys will continue to work hard to get the course back into shape as soon as possible.

Maintenance Monday at Yaupon

Today we were able to complete a aggressive backtrack vertical mowing and mowing of greens.  Also got some fairways mowed and started mowing tees. The crew spot fertilized weak areas on fairways. Rough has started getting mowed and it is think and long from last weeks rain. We will get it knocked down as fast as we can but be prepared for some thick rough especially on the front 9.

Here are a few pics from the verticutting today:

* Fertilized all Fairways

Normal mowing and blowing of tees, fairways, and rough
Put out the new amenities (flags, sticks, and cups)
Removed the black and white lollipop stakes (replaced with cart directional signage)

The staff appreciates the time closed to get all these projects completed.

Live Oak Greens update

I wanted to give everyone an update on the greens at Live Oak. The greens are healing up well after the aerification last week. With all the soil amendments we added to the greens during the process the greens are growing rapidly and cause a slower than normal greens speed. Tomorrow we are double vertical mowing and mowing to help with this. The height of cut is also working its way back down from last weeks maintenance to the greens.  We will continue working to get the growth under control and speeds should improve in the coming week.

Thank you and look forward to seeing everyone out on the courses.

Thank you for your cooperation as the crew works hard to complete this process

Yesterday we applied our second application of PreEmerge herbicide. These two applications are aimed to combat the summer weed pressures.  Live Oak's second application will occur during our closed time for aerification next week.

Golf course Update

Recently many members had inquired about the condition of the greens at Live Oak. With cooler spring temperatures and many days of limited sunshine some of the greens are slow greening up and growing as Spring begins. A good rule of thumb for Bermuda grass to start growing is a combined temperature of 150 (the low and high temperatures added together). There has not been many of these days this spring and we have also had some lows in the 40s recently. We are monitoring the situation daily and have a plan moving forward as we wait on temperatures to increase. This Thursday we are going to pencil tine aerify the greens following with a dusting of sand. The sand will help with ball roll and also reduce the algae on the greens. We will then continue to fertilize the greens regularly until we start getting some good growth. Also in the coming days the staff will begin resodding some of the larger areas with small plugs (concentrating on 4 collar, 5, 11, and front of 15). I will keep you update as we move forward in the coming weeks and please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank You and look forward to some warmer sunny days,
Tyler Easterwood

#14 Live Oak

We started some clearing at #14 Live Oak. The guys are working to open up the view from the Blue tees. I think the project is showing off the fairway well.

PreEmerge Week

Today we were able to put out the first round of pre emerge fertilizer. Thursday we will apply the same Ronstar fertilizer product at Live Oak. In May we will apply the follow up applications. Tomorrow at Yaupon we may be a little damp around the course since the product needs to be water in well.
The weather looks great this week so let's all get out and enjoy the clubs.
Thanks,

Trees

We continue working on tree trimming as we only have about 2 weeks left to trim this winter. Here are some pictures of the cedar elms at the corner of #15 Live Oak and the Oaks left of #14 fairway at Live Oak. Both areas should greatly improve playing conditions.

Winter has Arrived

Due to the below freezing temperatures the courses will be closed the next couple of days. Looks extremely cold until later on Wednesday afternoon. It also looks like we will have lengthy frost delays later in the week. Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays and stay Warm this week.
